Counting Toys for 2 Year Olds

As a parent or educator, it is so satisfying to watch a toddler learn new things. Toddlers show such enthusiasm when they successfully place all the shapes in the sorting box or make a block tower without it toppling. This is the stage when kids are learning to count and are acquiring basic math skills, such as knowing that the number one, means one item. These are simple ideas to an adult but are the foundation for future understanding of more complex ideas. We can take advantage of the child’s passion for learning by providing educational counting toys for 2 year olds and counting games for toddlers.

Counting toys for 2 year olds do not need to be complicated. Plastic colorful counting bears with sorting cups are a super example of a simple toy that offers so many opportunities for learning. With adult guidance the toddler can count the bears while dropping them into cups, learning numbers by rote. They can sort the bears by color and can match the bears to the same colored cup; sorting and matching are necessary early math skills. It is easy to use this toy for counting games for toddlers. Using a washable marker, draw one big dot on a cup, two dots on another and so on. Have the toddler match the right number of bears to the dots and drop them into the cup. Next write the proper numeral next to the dots. The little one will become aware that one bear equals one dot and is represented by the number one.  For more information click here. fine motor toys for toddlers, building toys for preschoolers

Construction toys for toddlers are brilliant for creativity and imagination but they are equally great as counting toys for 2 year olds. As the child is placing one interlocking block onto another he is practicing one to one correspondence. Piling blocks in a tower he may be counting: one, two, three. Take one block away and he has two. The toddler is learning adding and subtraction. As she is planning her creation she will be counting out the pieces and then placing interconnecting pieces in sequence. The chances for learning are endless.  For more information click here. educational toys for preschool, preschool learning toys, best interactive toys for toddlers
